WHY WASTE TIME ON MUSIC?

A captivating and engaging presentation that focuses on communication and human interaction.

Larsen puts everyday life into a musical setting and it quickly becomes clear that music comes into play every time we talk to each other. It is often musical skills such as. rhythm, timing and scenic charisma that determine whether we achieve good, professional results.

The lecture presents a wide range of tools that can be used without problems by anyone who wants to improve their everyday communicational skills.

The lecture is always adapted to the specific context, whether it is a leadership seminar, a conference, a nursing home, an evening school or something entirely different.

BODY LANGUAGE WORKSHOP

As a conductor you have about 12 seconds to convince the orchestra that you are worthy of their attention. This also applies to all of us in many other contexts:

  • Job Interviews

  • Exams

  • Negotiations

  • Speeches

  • Lectures

Avoiding sending mixed or unintentional signals therefore is of utmost importance.

Larsen dives into “The Conductor’s Toolbox” and finds all the instruments that are relevant, not just to conductors, but to everybody who communicates with other people in their everyday life.

Larsen shares his own experiences, tips, tricks, and magic formulas before the participants themselves get the opportunity to put them into practical use.

The ultimate goal being: Be yourself, everybody else is taken.

Larsen invites the listeners backstage for a humorous and entertaining insight into how a performance comes to life. Flavored by anecdotes and personal podium experiences, Larsen explains:

What is it actually the conductor is doing?

How does one get the “crazy ide” of becoming a conductor?

Why does music mean so much to so many?

On top of it all everybody will be taught to read music in less than two minutes.

This presentation is based on Larsen’s book “Meet the Conductor”.

During the 2020 pandemic, Larsen formed the duo SecondChoice together with conducting colleague Martin Åkerwall.

Together they present an entertaining concert lecture, where they in words, music and photos invite the audience on a tour through their musical lives as both comrades, competitors and colleagues.

The journey begins among rollercoasters and carousels in 1976, when they both played in the Tivoli Boys Guard’s Band in Copenhagen. Soon they found themselves as fellow students at the fashionable Royal Danish Academy of Music. Subsequently they both got accepted into the prestigious Sibelius Academy in Finland, where they both studied with the renowned maestro Jorma Panula.

Over the years, they have both competed for the podium and shared it, e.g., on the highly popular TV-show “Maestro” and at a number of international conducting master classes.

This concert lecture not only offers great music, it also provides an honest peek into the ups and downs of the life as a conductor, composer and musician.
